Expedition Medical Services

Dr Dick Morgan, Laayoune, Western Sahara, 2006

Expedition Medical Services - Dr Dick Morgan. Full time Family Physician in practice as a GP in Solihull for 28 years. Dick retired from his practice in 2010, and moved to Devon in 2013. Brought up in Khartoum, Sudan where his father was Professor of Medicine for 17 years. Dick learnt to drive on the desert as soon as he could see out of the windscreen and push the pedals at the same time. He often accompanied his father when he travelled to remote medical outposts in the provinces. His love of the desert & Land Rovers continues to this day. For 10 years Dick's expedition vehicle was a 1992 Range Rover Tdi Classic. In 2007, however this was replaced with a new Nissan Patrol Trek, fully expedition prepared by Frogs Island 4x4 - details of the vehicle are on this site elsewhere. Faster road transport is provided by a Porsche 996 – his 4th 911. Dick is interested in Ophthalmology and travel Medicine. A member of BASICS (British Accociation for Immediate Care www.basics.org.uk ) holding a current Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Certificate. He was a GP Trainer and also worked for 20 years at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre. Dick is married to Julie and has a 29 year old son Jonathan who has accompanied him on many of the expeditions. Jonathan now lives in Turkey

Frogs Island 4x4 are a specialist 4x4 company who are a mine of information on vehicles and expedition preparation. Although initially focussing on Land Rover they now embraces other marques as well, and can provide you with a new Third World specification Toyota Landcruiser Amazon or rebuild your 30 year old Land Rover to equip it for global travels. Frogs Island are UK agents for Australian ARB products including the excellent Old Man Emu suspension systems which I have used on my Range Rover for 6 years. When my 1992 Range Rover Tdi's rear differential gave up while Matthew was using the vehicle in the UK in 2006, Frogs Island supplied my new differential rebuilt with an ARB AirLocker centre to prevent wheelspin off road. Advice from them is founded on personal and professional experience. In 2007 at 160,000 miles I decided to replace the Range Rover, and find a replacement. My new Nissan Patrol was expedition prepared from new by Frogs Island and the vehicle is featured in their website in the photo gallery under Nissan Patrol Y61. The standard of work and the innovative solutions they provide are excellent. www.frogsisland4x4.com
